Artist + Curator
Trystan Bates is a multidisciplinary artist and curator.
His work is built around concepts that explore social behavior and the way in which we live together. The themes of memory, our shared histories, global mythology, and storytelling, is frequently noted in his work. Although abstract in nature, Bates weaves in hints of narrative elements into his pieces to promote easy and playful interactions. It is his hope that viewers leave thinking more deeply about their personal lives, the communities they are part of and the connections that unite us all.
Trystan has been working in the arts and has exhibited widely throughout Latin America, Europe and the United States over the past twenty five years. He began his career in editorial illustration but later shifted his focus to fine art and curation finding it to be a better fit.
